Yeti

   For centuries there have been legends of strange man-like beasts to be seen in the snow-covered mountains of Tibet. The Tibetan name for the snow-man is ‘Yeti,’ while the females have been called ‘Ladni.’

   The first reports on the snowmen came from Beton, the surveyor of Alexander the Great’s Expedition to India, who stated: ‘Beyond the other Scythian man-eaters in a certain valley of Mount Imaus (the Himalayas) there is a region called Abarimon where live wild people with their feet turned round behind their legs, they are extraordinarily swift, and roam everywhere with the wild beasts. They are unable to breathe in an unfamiliar atmosphere and could not be taken captive to the neighbouring chiefs or to Alexander.’ The source of this is Pliny the Elder. The odd point is that the Tibetans of today believe that the snowmen have their feet pointing backwards, a fact which enables them to climb mountains speedily.
